There are many hotels and hostels in Tartu, especially it being an "intellectual and cultural hub" with students coming from all across Baltic States. We recommend searching for accomodations with booking.com.

We can't stress this enough: book a room as early as possible. Maybe right now. Because it's summer, and Tartu is quite popular with tourists and students hoping to be admitted to the University.

Hostels

All hostels within about 15 minutes walk to the city center, from best to worst by personal preferences:

• Hostel Terviseks: good reviews and can't be more central - right at the city hall square (50 m from our venue).
• Looming Hostel: booking.com also has it. Small number of places, but cosy.
• Hostel Vaksali 4: next to the railway station. Bigger and more standard one.
• Tartu Student Village: the student dormitories.
• Tartu Student Villa: maybe tries to have similar name to previous one. It is a villa with dorm rooms, as far as I know.
• Hostel Tähtvere: could be the cheapest, you need to call or email. Quite close, 7 min from our venue.

Hotels

• London: nice and on the main pedestrian street, one block from our venue, prices on a higher side.
• Dorpat: next to the river, bus station and market. Quite new place.
• Hotel Tartu: small rooms, but renovated quite recently and for a good price. Booking.com calls it a hostel. Just across bus station.

Tip: some smaller villa-apartement places (e.g. Vikerkaare) may have no 24-hour staff, so you need to call ahead to arrange arrival on late hours. Some otherwise cheap places are on the edge of city (some 5-6 km from center) and I'm not that sure about public transportation there. The only camping place near the city center would be in my backyard - free lawn provided.
